The International Menopause Society (IMS) designates October 18th, 2007 World Menopause Day. It is a day to raise awareness about menopause and its health-related implications. It is a day to honor women and recognize those who are entering menopause. It is a day to educate, acknowledge and take action to improve health and quality of life.  It is a day to celebrate.

Karen Giblin, founder of the Red Hot Mamas recalls, “My mother spoke to me about menstruation and childbirth, but she did not talk to me or prepare me for menopause.  When I experienced surgical menopause, I was frightened and embarrassed by my symptoms and thus developed a lot of anxiety and dread”.

Giblin continues, “My body sent out its wake up call that prompted me to gain a better understanding of menopause and its effect on my wellpbeing.  The more I learned about menopause, the better I began communicating with my physician and making my own menopause healthcare decisions which enabled me to minimize those uncomfortable changes”.

October 18th is an important day for women worldwide.  Women should make their voices heard and should question their healthcare providers about all aspects of menopause and menopause treatments.  Start taking action in your healthcare decisions TODAY, World Menopause Day.  It’s as easy as 1-2-3.

  1. View the World Menopause Day press release.
  2. Explore the long-term health effects of menopause.
  3. Don’t be a silent struggler.  Talk to other women who are going through the same thing.
